Obama’s rush for foreign policy ‘wins’ to blame for crisis in Myanmar

I’ve never seen a more vivid example of this than when I recently visited the world’s largest refugee camp in Bangladesh. Home to nearly 700,000 refugees, this camp was made possible by the failed foreign policy of President Barack Obama.

[/fusion_title][fusion_text]Buddhist, Christian, Jewish and Muslim clergy recently traveled to Bangladesh and spoke with dozens of the Rohingya Muslim refugees who were among the estimated 700,000 who fled genocidal violence committed by the Myanmar government last year and are now sharing the horrors that innocent families have faced.
Sixteen members of the recently founded Faith Coalition to End Genocide in Burma (also known as Myanmar) took part in the multi-day trip to learn more about the dire situation and spread awareness within their spheres of influence in the United States.
The United Nations estimates that over 670,000 Rohingya refugees have fled to Bangladesh from the Rakhine state since August 2017, when Burmese military forces attacked and destroyed their jungle villages, killed thousands of men and babies and systematically gang-raped the women.
Muslim imam Malik Mujahid, one of the coalition’s organizers, told The Christian Post on Thursday that there are still as many as 500 to 600 Rohingya refugees per week who are making their way to Bangladeshi refugee camps in the border town of Cox’s Bazar. Read more.

[/fusion_title][fusion_text]The ‘Interfaith Coalition to Stop Genocide in Burma’ organized a 16-member delegation to visit Rohingya camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh on March 26 and 27. According to Spokeswoman Nicolee Ambrose, two Buddhist leaders, two Jewish leaders, two Imams, and several Christian leaders are “united in our efforts to address the suffering of the Rohingya people.”
Coalition Member Rabbi David Saperstein, former US ambassador at large for International Religious Freedom, said that since the 2012 riots in Rakhine state, mosques had been attacked, Quran and other religious books burned, schools offering religious education closed and Muslim scholars assaulted. Participants are asking the US Congress to pass a bill to support the Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina’s position to create a safe zone for Rohingyas in Burma protected by peacekeeping troops.
